Marking Period 1 Inquiry Project
Historical Fiction Narrative
During this marking period, students explore how writers use details to convey specific thoughts and ideas by writing, illustrating, and creating an audio recording of their own historical fiction text. Students read and examine a variety of historical fiction for different purposes during the phases of the narrative writing process. First, students compose a short opinion piece, a literary analysis. Then to gather ideas and details for both the text and illustrations of their stories, students ask questions to develop a historical context for their story. They choose a specific time period or historical event for the setting and locate information and images from print and digital resources to use as details and descriptions in their stories. Students choose how to create their illustrations and audio recordings and publish their texts using a technology tool.
